Control Jiu-Jitsu's in house tournament - Melbourne FL
2447 N Wickham rd suite #112 Melbourne FL 32935
Competition is one of the trademarks of Jiu-Jitsu with Incredible benefits for skill development, as well as the development of character and self control. In Control offers these benefits to the members of Control Jiu-Jitsu without the cost or drive of a traditional event.
We designed this event for our kids program specifically as a first introduction into competition with the goal to educate the kids in the rule set of sport jiu-jitsu, as well as to showcase the fun to be had in a competitive environment.
We believe all techniques if practiced safely and with careful supervision are apart of the sport and should not be banned in practice. With that being said, due to their complexity kids will not be allowed to use leglocks. In an effort to keep everyone safe all submission attempts will be closely monitored by the refs and if no attempt for escape is being made and the risk of harm is evident then the ref will make the decision to stop a match and declare the tap on behalf of the competitor. Refs decision is final and any complaints will be handled by the head table. Examples of this scenario are a fully straight armbar or a fully locked in choke, etc.
For our younger competitors we are offering an alternative ruleset as not every kid is ready for the intensity or responsibility of submissions. This rule set will be positionally based and focused on escapes and top control. Each competitor will get the chance to escape from 3 different positions: side control, mount, and back within 30 secs. The fastest escape time wins best 2 out of 3. In the case of a tie the match will be decided by the ref. We highly suggest this division for any 5 - 6 year old that is nervous of submissions but still wants the experience of competing.

If you were moved to a new bracket, this means that you were merged to make the most competitive brackets possible and to make sure that everyone has a match. You will not need to make the new weight required for that bracket.
You can make these changes by logging into your account and modifying your registration details. After this change deadline, the registration will be final, and no further changes will be allowed.
Any competitors who are alone in their division should choose to either self-move themselves up a division or cancel their registration for a full credit. If you have trouble changing your division, you can click the following link for help: https://support.smoothcomp.com/article/89-how-to-change-weightclass-or-cancel
Boys and Girls generally compete TOGETHER until 12 years old, but we open registrations separately to give an opportunity for a dedicated bracket to be created by gender. Kids at this age benefit from competing together as strength level is equal.
