Matrix Grappling Series is a No-Gi grappling competition system built to deliver clear outcomes, active engagement, and decisive matches.
Matrix eliminates common problems found in modern competition by removing advantages, discouraging stalling, and introducing a structured overtime system to ensure every match has a winner.
All Matrix events operate under the Matrix Ruleset

Matrix is designed to be fair, exciting, and easy to understand for athletes, coaches, and parents.
• Single elimination
• Points and submissions
• KAOS Round when score is 0-0
• Kids
• Juveniles
• Adults
• Masters
Divisions are structured to prioritise safety, fairness, and action.
• Kids 6–8 years: 2 minutes
• Kids 9–11 years: 2.5 minutes
• Kids 12–15 years: 3 minutes
• Juvenile: 4 minutes
• Adults & Masters: 5 minutes
Points are awarded for positional control and progression.
• Takedown (3 seconds of control): 2 points
• Sweep: 2 points
• Guard pass: 3 points
• Knee on belly: 2 points
• Mount: 4 points
• Back control (hooks or body triangle): 4 points
Important:
• No advantage points
• Referees encourage active engagement
• Stalling penalties may be applied
If a match ends 0–0, it proceeds to the KAOS Round.
KAOS Rules:
• Duration: 1 minute
• Athletes choose to start standing or sitting
• Standing athlete must pass guard to win
• Sitting athlete must sweep to win
• If both start standing: first takedown wins
• If both start sitting: stand and pass wins
• If no decisive action occurs: referee decision to the more attacking athlete
No submissions are permitted in the KAOS Round.
A match may be won by:
• Submission
• Points victory
• KAOS Round victory
• Referee decision (KAOS Round only)
For all kids divisions:
• No Leg/foot Locks
• No Wrist Locks
• No toe holds
• No slams or spikes
• Referees may stop matches at any time for safety
Matrix places athlete welfare first, especially for youth competitors.
The following are prohibited in all divisions:
• Slams or spikes
• Neck cranks
• Jumping Guard ( Kids, White and Blue Belt)
• Knee Reaps
Penalties may include warnings, points, or disqualification.
• Rashguard (short or long sleeve)- No offensive content
• No-Gi shorts (no pockets, zips, or metal)
• Spats permitted (shorts must be worn over spats unless division specifies otherwise)
• Referee decisions are final
• Tournament Director retains final authority on all rule interpretations
• Brackets may be modified for fairness or safety
• Athletes must be present at mat-side when called
• Failure to appear may result in disqualification
• Sportsmanship is expected at all times

Kids - $150
Adult Beginner - $200
Adult Advanced- $300
* Kids Divisions are in 3 KG intervals
* Adult and Masters are in 5kg
Competitors can Weigh the Day before or on the day.
Weigh can be completed any time before your match- (please allow the kids in the morning to weigh in first)
MGS will endeavour to keep competitors in the division that they entered. We will automatically place fighters up into the next weight category or age division if needed.
We Do Not mix Belts ( Except for the Super Bracket), We do not mix genders
The Safety of all competitors is our #1 priority, and we would not put a child in a position where they could get hurt. We want the kids to enjoy the experience- win , lose or draw.
1) Mouthguards for highly recommended- not compulsory
2) Must have finger and toenails cut ( will be checked at weigh in)
3) Must show Good Sportsmanship- Win, Lose or Draw ( Shake opponents hand and other coaches hand)
