Update 20/3/2023: For competitors and spectators attending the event, please use the EIS car park OR the ICE Sheffield car park across the road. If both those are full, there is on street parking in a nearby housing estate behind EIS.

When you arrive, please visit our desk to the left of the main lobby to check in.

Doors will open just before 9am. If you are competing, please weigh in 1 hour before your division starts. You can find division times under "brackets" above.

There will be a rules meeting at 9.30 am. If you cannot attend at that time, please familiarise yourself with the event rules described below.

Due to popular demand, last minute registrations will be accepted until end of day on 22 March. Registrations made in this period will be final and non-refundable.

The Northern Nogi Submission Open is a grappling tournament with a simple premise - either win by submission or the referee will choose a victor. Each of our referees has 20+ years of experience in grappling.

The English Institute of Sport, located near Sheffield's Meadowhall shopping centre, has free parking, a cafe serving hot food and beverages, and capacity for 250 spectators in the gallery seating area. High quality judo mats will be used for the competition areas (8 m x 8 m each).

Early bird tickets (£30) are available until 15th Jan 2023.

Normal tickets (£35) are available until 01 Mar 2023.

Late entry tickets (£40) are available until 15 Mar 2023.

All tickets are refundable until 15 Mar 2023.

Entry for spectators costs £5 on the door.

Competitors must weigh in at least 1 hour before their first match. Each team is permitted up to 2 coaches as cornermen. Competitors will be required to sign a waiver.

Rules per division:

Expert: No strikes, leg scissor takedowns (kani basami), small joint manipulations, slams out of submissions from above shoulder height, biting, gouging, or fishhooking of the mouth, nose, etc.

Intermediate: As above, plus no spinal locks or slams out of submissions from any height.

Novice: As above, plus no twisting leglocks, jumping guard, hip joint locks, wrist locks, or suplexes.

This is a single elimination event but if time allows (depending on registration numbers) we may run additional matches within each category for experience only.

Please note: Weight and/or age categories may be merged if too few competitors register for any given category.

Brackets will be published on 16 Mar 2023.
