# VBR Beginner + Intermediate Sub-Only Fall Tournament > Competition in Manassas, Virginia, United States | September 28, 2019 – September 29, 2019 ## Overview **Event Type:** Competition **Description:** On Saturday, September 28, Vanguard Battle Royale brings another amazing sub-only developmental tournament for adult beginner and intermediate grapplers. With both male and female divisions, all academies/teams/affiliations are welcome and encouraged to attend! Featuring an EBI format (*a timed submission-only regulation period followed by a positional**overtime**shoot-out in the event of a tie*) and double elimination brackets, our event offers plenty of mat time, is efficiently run, and features quality medals for 1st/2nd/3rd place finishers. The Vanguard Battle Royale focuses on providing you, the competitor, with an excellent tournament experience and the most bang for your buck. Allowed: All upper body submissions allowed except spinal locks and neck cranks. THE ONLY lower-body submission allowed is the straight ankle-lock. NO REAPING, No toe-holds, No heel-hooks, No knee-bars, No calf-slicers. No foot-locks. No-slams. All submissions (heel hooks, reaping, etc.) allowed. No slams. 7 mins for**Beginners** 10 mins for**Intermediate** *Double elimination* means that competitors continue to compete until they lose two matches.In the unlikely event of a two-person bracket, the competitors will run best-of-three matches to determine a winner. If a competitor loses a match but then fights to the final, beating an undefeated competitor, there will be a second finals match between the two. In the event that neither competitor submits their opponent during regulation time, the match moves to a positional overtime shootout. The referee will flip a coin to determine who chooses the position (back mount or gift wrap) for the initial overtime period. The period is timed (to the second) until a submission or escape happens. At that point, the competitors switch positions and a second overtime period is run until there is an escape, a submission, or the overtime period length exceeds the duration of the first overtime period.
