# VBR Kids Only Back-to-school Tournament

> Competition in Manassas, Virginia, United States | October 05, 2019 – October 06, 2019

## Overview

**Event Type:** Competition

**Description:** The Vanguard Battle Royale will be bringing you another fun tournament for kids Saturday, October 5th. IBJJF rules/points, no advantages and double-elimination brackets. We will be using the Madison bracketing system for weight classes, therefore the weight range you register your child competitor(s) may differ from the weight range they compete in as we are planning on only a 20% weight variation within the brackets. More matches, less cost, more fun!

1. All athletes will weigh-in with the gi

	2.	The referee is the highest authority in a match. The referee ruling on the result of each match is incontestable. This is a developmental meet and we ask that all competitors, coaches, and parents respect the ultimate authority of our referees.

	3.	Points awarded as follows: Takedown, sweep, and knee on belly: 2 points; Guard pass: 3 points; Mount and back control: 4 points. Control must be maintained for 3 seconds.

	4.	Pulling guard is permitted as long as the athlete maintains one grip on their opponent

	5.	Jumping guard is not permitted

	6.	The referee has the final say on when a submission is set and has the authority to end a match at any time if they perceive there is a threat to any competitor's safety.

	7.	There are no submissions allowed for athletes 6 and under.**If a competitor is 6 or under and in a bracket with kids over 6 NO SUBMISSIONS ARE ALLOWED WITHIN THAT BRACKET.**If any athletes in a No Subs bracket attempt a submission the referee will immediate stop the match and that competitor will get a warning. If there is a second attempt, they will be DQ'ed.

	8.	The only legal submissions are chokes (triangle, head / arm triangle, collar, RNC, guillotine) and straight / bent arm locks.**There are no wristlocks, leg or ankle attacks, neck cranks, or slamming allowed. Any attempts at an illegal submission will result in an immediate DQ.**

9.**Prohibited moves include any purposeful (at the referee’s discretion) striking / biting / pulling hair / etc. and will result in an immediate DQ.**

	10.	If competitors move out of bounds the referee will stop the match when he / she feels it is safe to do so and there is no imminent submission in place. The referee will start the competitors in the position they maintained when the match was stopped. If that position is not able to be replicated, the referee may (at their discretion) start the competitors standing.

	11.	The Kids Vanguard Battle Royale does not use an advantages / penalty system. In the event of a tie, the referee will choose a winner based on THEIR assessment of who was most competitive factoring in takedown attempts, positional control, and attempted submissions.

	12.	Divisions are separated by skill level, than age and weight. Our brackets are built to keep competitors within two years / 20% weight difference with one another. We may ask competitors to move to divisions beyond their age / weight / skill level in order to maintain quality brackets.

	13.	This is a double elimination tournament. A loss drops a competitor down to the losers’ bracket where they may fight back for a win. After two losses, a competitor is out of the tournament. It is possible that a competitor may lose a match and fight back to compete against an undefeated opponent in the final. If the competitor with the previous loss beats the undefeated opponent, there will be a second match to determine the outcome of the bracket as both competitors will have received one loss.

	14.	For two-person brackets, we encourage a best of three outcome. However if a competitor chooses to no longer compete that will be considered a stoppage and they will lose the bracket.

	15.	If an athlete either chooses to stop, or is incapable of continuing, that is considered a stoppage and they will be removed from the bracket.
