## Overview

**Name:** Dojo Nine

**Description:** Dojo Nine, formerly known as the Kodokan Jiu-Jitsu Club, is Calgary's premier Jiu-Jitsu and MMA academy, dedicated to helping individuals become the best version of themselves through martial arts training. Founded in 2014 by owner Randy Chung as a sanctuary to better the community through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the academy has grown into a welcoming environment for everyone from families and beginners to advanced practitioners. In 2017, the school relocated and upgraded its facility to accommodate the academy's growth and expansion of the MMA program.

At Dojo Nine, students achieve various goals including learning self-defense, improving confidence, and becoming competitors through purposeful and intentional training. The academy's philosophy honors tradition while embracing contemporary approaches, helping students evolve both as martial artists and individuals. Whether training for fun, fitness, or competition, the structured programs support steady progress through a proven curriculum. The core values of passion, hard work, integrity, adaptability, and humility guide every class, creating an encouraging environment that keeps students committed to their personal growth.

The academy is led by Professor Randy Chung, a second-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under fifth-degree black belt Josh Russell of Carlos Gracie Jr. Randy brings extensive experience in various martial arts including Chinese and Thai kickboxing, Judo, and wrestling, along with a proven MMA record of 5-2-1. He is a 2013 Canadian National Chinese Kickboxing Champion with invaluable experience competing at regional, national, and international levels. Professor Walton Chung, a third-degree black belt also under Josh Russell, serves as a certified instructor with a background in traditional martial arts and urban acrobatics. Walton is a 2019 Sport Jiu-Jitsu International Federation World Championship finalist with a thorough, scientific approach to teaching. Both instructors have proven track records of coaching world-level athletes and individuals embarking on their martial arts journey.
