Afrobraz Jiu-Jitsu, located in Montreal's Mile-Ex neighborhood, is led by head instructor Francois KB (Buscapé), a black belt awarded in 2020 by Leonardo "Cascão" Saggioro. Buscapé began his BJJ journey with the Brazilian Top Team under Fabio Holanda, and has since achieved numerous international podium finishes in competitions across Canada. His training includes extensive time at the Cantagalo Jiu-Jitsu social project in Rio de Janeiro, where he trained alongside world champions like Douglas Rufino.
The academy's teaching philosophy is uniquely influenced by Buscapé's background in Capoeira, emphasizing sport as a tool for personal development and helping students reveal their best selves. Afrobraz focuses on core values of respect, discipline, and perseverance, teaching students to handle failure, solve problems under pressure, and work towards long-term goals. Beyond technical BJJ training in grappling and submission techniques including chokes and joint locks, the academy provides life lessons applicable far beyond the mat.
Buscapé is also the founder of the Afrobraz Project, a social initiative supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in pursuing their dreams. Through his partnership with Douglas Rufino and the Cantagalo project, Afrobraz maintains strong connections to the Brazilian BJJ community while serving Montreal's diverse population with multilingual instruction in French, English, and Portuguese.
