Alliance Yellowknife is led by an exceptional team of black belt instructors. Head Instructor Mitchel Wiles (black belt, first degree) began his martial arts journey as a wrestler, winning tournaments including a provincial title in Saskatchewan. He started training in BJJ in 2008 and won gold medals at local tournaments including the Absolute Division at the 2012 Mind Body Soul Alberta Open. He received his black belt in 2021 from Alliance Black Belt Faron Sinnicks and Alliance founder Master Romero Cavalcanti. Mitchel is co-owner of the academy and an Alliance Jiu-Jitsu certified instructor in the Fundamentals and Intermediate curriculums. Other instructors include Brad Tremblay (black belt, 2023), Joshua Campbell (black belt, 2024, co-owner), Norm Mair (black belt, 2024), and Jessica Pacunayen (brown belt). The instructors have trained with and received belts from world champions including Lucas Lepri, Michael Langhi, and Gabi Garcia.

Eaglets (5-7 yrs)
Alliance Yellowknife offers a safe environment for children aged 5-7 to learn the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Your child will learn self-defense, self-confidence, discipline, get in great shape and have a lot of fun.
Kids I (7-9 yrs)
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program for children ages 7-9. Students learn self-defense, build confidence, and develop discipline in a fun environment.
Womxn
Fundamentals class available to all women and those who are non-binary but feel comfortable in a space curated for women. A great gateway into jiu-jitsu for people who have never tried a martial art before. Taught by two women in an inclusive, fun, and safe atmosphere.
Open Mat
Additional sparring and personalized skill development. Open to all members.
Tuesday (4 classes)
No-Gi
Brand new curriculum from Alliance. Students learn to grapple without the use of the kimono. Focuses on submission wrestling and is popular among students interested in mixed-martial-arts.
Kids II (9-12 yrs)
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program for children ages 9-12. Focuses on technical development and competitive training.
Fundamentals
The most important class we offer. It is the foundation of your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey. With a strong focus on self-defense, the class incorporates the same jiu-jitsu first taught at the original Gracie academy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil during the 1960's. Focuses on positional drilling instead of full-contact sparring.
Intermediate
Builds on the skills, techniques and concepts from the Fundamentals program. Students dive deeper into attacks, guards and escapes. Introduces live sparring or 'rolling'. Requires 60 Fundamentals classes before joining.
