Body Armor Jiu-Jitsu

191 Vicksburg Rd, 26201, Buckhannon, New York

Body Armor MMA is a premiere destination for those seeking high level martial arts training in West Virginia. Founded on the rich tradition of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the academy offers classes for children as young as three to adults of any age. Whether it's your first time stepping on the mats or you're a seasoned veteran, Body Armor welcomes practitioners of all skill levels to join their community. The academy's lineage traces back to the legendary Francisco Sá, who was born in 1935 in Senador Pompeu, Brazil. Master Sá's journey in Jiu-Jitsu began through studying illustrated techniques by Helio Gracie and training under George Gracie's student Nilo Veloso. He later trained extensively under Japanese master Takeo Iano in Recife, earning his black belt in 1959. Master Sá went on to become one of the few BJJ practitioners to achieve the highly esteemed rank of Red Belt (Grand Master), attaining this honor after 54 years as a black belt. The Sá family is considered the equivalent of the Gracies in Northeast Brazil, having produced world-class fighters including Guybson Sá, Robson Sá, Daniel Beleza, Jorge Gurgel, and Marcus Aurelio. Body Armor's training philosophy emphasizes both technical mastery and personal development. Adult classes cater to all skill levels, from beginners learning fundamental techniques and basic movements to advanced practitioners preparing for competition. The curriculum focuses on positioning, escapes, control, grappling, and submissions while promoting physical fitness, mental discipline, and a supportive community environment. The Kids BJJ program provides a fun and engaging environment where children develop balance, coordination, confidence, discipline, and respect through interactive drills and games, all while learning practical self-defense skills.
