Ascend Jiu Jitsu and Silverback Academy in Fairfax, Virginia, is dedicated to changing lives through martial arts, education, and coaching. Founded by Sean Stoopman, a 2nd degree black belt under Professor Tom DeBlass, the academy provides a safe, welcoming atmosphere for students of all ages and experience levels. Head instructor Sean Stoopman focuses on teaching intermediate and advanced levels of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while personally overseeing competition training for the academy's team. The coaching staff also includes Ivan Pena, a black belt with 15 years of dedication to BJJ, who joined the academy in 2017 as a brown belt and earned his black belt under Sean Stoopman and Professor Tom DeBlass in August 2020.
