Black Label Martial Arts was founded by Sarah Louise Gomez and Malachy Friedman, a 3rd-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt, with a mission to provide world-class martial arts instruction in Charleston, South Carolina. Drawing from decades of training alongside martial arts legends and coaching championship-winning athletes, they are committed to delivering passion and expertise to every student regardless of experience level. Their philosophy is simple: "Treat every student in every class like it is the most important lesson we will ever teach." This is the Black Label Martial Arts difference. The gym provides expert instruction for kids, adults and competitive athletes in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Submission Grappling, Judo, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling, Kids Jiu-Jitsu, Women's Fitness, and Self-Defense. Malachy Friedman carries a distinguished lineage: Mitsuyo Maeda → Carlos Gracie → Carlson Gracie → Ricardo Liborio → Malachy Friedman. In 2015, Malachy and Sarah brought their experience and knowledge back to Malachy's hometown of Charleston to open Black Label Martial Arts Academy.
