The academy provides quality, high-level training to students of all ages and levels, teaching not only the sport aspect of jiu jitsu but self-defense as well. Arise is an IBJJF Certified school focusing on developing good moral character and respect, which is a founding virtue of the bushido code. Arise Martial Arts is family-owned and operated, led by Professor Daniel "Diesel" Fundora, a 2nd Degree IBJJF Certified Black Belt who is also a Masters World Champion (2017). Professor Fundora received his black belt in December 2018 under Professor Michel Porfirio Pereira at Carlson Gracie Miami. His wife, Professor Michelle Fundora, is a black belt (promoted January 2025) who manages the academy and heads the Little Kids Program, Women's Self Defense, and various other programs. She is a retired law enforcement officer with 10 years of service. The academy offers programs for children starting at age 3 through adults, including Little Kids, Kids, Teens, Adults, and Competition Team programs. The facility is well-kept, clean, and welcoming, with a team dedicated to helping students acquire foundational skills and develop confident minds. He received his black belt in December 2018 under Professor Michel Porfirio Pereira at Carlson Gracie Miami. Professor Diesel is a Masters World Champion (2017), IBJJF World Master Silver Medalist (2016/2020), and has numerous other championship titles. He is an IBJJF Certified 2nd Degree Black Belt, CPR Certified, retired from the Department of Homeland Security, and is a husband and father to two girls. ### Casca - Black **Role:** Instructor **Bio:** Instructor at Arise Martial Arts. ### Michelle Fundora - Black **Role:** Instructor **Bio:** Michelle Fundora is a Miami, FL native who retired from her career as a full-time Law Enforcement Officer (10 years of service) in July 2022 to dedicate herself fully to Arise Jiu Jitsu. With her vast knowledge in criminal justice, she collaborates on self-defense training that is efficient and effective for the community. ### Pagan - Black **Role:** Instructor **Bio:** Pagan was born and raised in Miami, FL. He is a Law Enforcement Veteran with over 20 years of service. He's a Certified Defensive Tactics Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Gracie Combatives Certified Instructor, and prior member of the SWAT Team. He began his jiu jitsu journey in 2010 and was part owner of Miami's original Carlson Gracie Miami Academy. He is a certified personal trainer and private kickboxing coach. He received his purple belt in January 2024 under Professor Daniel 'Diesel' Fundora.
