Professor Carlos is an accomplished black belt competitor with numerous IBJJF and ADCC titles, including 2024 ADCC Atlantic City Master 1 Gold, 2023 IBJJF NY Open No-Gi Gold, and 2018 IBJJF Pan American No-Gi Gold. He also won multiple Kasai Pro events and Rise Invitational competitions. The coaching team includes Professor Tara (IBJJF World and Pan Champion), Coach Gregor Gillespie (UFC lightweight fighter and NCAA Division I National Champion wrestler), Coach Dylan O'Regan (multiple IBJJF medalist), and Coach Dom (Nassau Law Enforcement Officer certified in Jiu Jitsu Survival Tactics).
Jiu Jitsu Modern emphasizes a forward-thinking approach that blends traditional values with modern training methods. The academy offers programs for adults (Basics and Advanced), kids (age 4+), and first responders. They also run their own line of minimalist jiu jitsu apparel.
