Art of Entanglement is a family-run, family-oriented Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in Monterey, California. Founded in 2024 by Christopher Rafael Moreno, a 2024 National Gold medalist who came to America from Venezuela in 2014, the gym has quickly established itself as a top-tier training facility in the area. Chris discovered Jiu-Jitsu after realizing college wasn't for him, and less than a year into training, he began teaching kids BJJ, fully embracing the art. After years of teaching and competing, Chris opened Art of Entanglement to fill a need for quality Jiu-Jitsu instruction in the Monterey area. The academy embodies its name - teaching the true art of entanglement rather than just moves. Art of Entanglement tracks each student's evolution, provides 1-on-1 training, breaks down movements, and continuously keeps notes to track progress. The technical expertise is complemented by a strong passion for Jiu-Jitsu and a competitive energy that makes everyone better. The instructors provide constructive criticism while keeping students motivated, always pushing them near their limits while having their backs. The training philosophy is clear: your Jiu-Jitsu journey is about your progress, not theirs. The facility features a top-tier conditioning room with dumbbells, weights, a sauna, and a cold plunge for recovery. Parents can relax in a comfortable lobby area during kids' classes. The academy welcomes students from Monterey, Pacific Grove, Del Rey Oaks, Sand City, and Seaside, offering over 30 classes per week for both kids (ages 4-14) and teens/adults (15+). The community has created a family bond that extends beyond the mats, with students and instructors sticking together both in and out of the academy. Art of Entanglement also offers a FREE Saturday class for Law Enforcement and First Responders as a thank you for their service to the community.
