**Description:** The Dojo NYC is a martial arts center in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, founded by Gabriel Marte and affiliated with Cobrinha BJJ. The gym is dedicated to instilling the principles of martial training in each individual through a welcoming atmosphere and passionate instruction. The Dojo is the only fully equipped mixed martial arts training center in the Ridgewood/Bushwick neighborhood, specializing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, traditional Muay Thai, Judo, No-Gi grappling, and competing at the highest levels in every discipline.

Gabriel Marte, a BJJ black belt and founder, brings over 20 years of martial arts experience. After being submitted by a 120-pound girl as a beginner, he fell in love with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and has dedicated his life to spreading the knowledge. The gym also features expert instruction from Isa Friedlander, a US National Judo Champion and World Cup Bronze medalist who serves as Head Judo Instructor, Brett Hlavacek, a Lion Fight champion and veteran Muay Thai fighter, and Kim Hlavacek, with over 14 years of Muay Thai experience training extensively in Thailand.

The Dojo creates an atmosphere that promotes learning the virtues of all martial arts taught within its walls, with a mission to make everyone feel welcome, treat each student with respect, and help members reach their goals through dedicated instruction.

### Gabriel Marte - Black

**Role:** Head Instructor

**Bio:** With 20+ years of martial arts experience, Gabriel started training martial arts at 11 years old. Competing in every martial art with national titles in Stick Fighting and countless first place medals, he was introduced to Kickboxing and Muay Thai before falling in love with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. After being submitted by a 14-year-old, 120-pound girl five times in a five-minute round, he dedicated his life to BJJ and spreading the knowledge to all who enter the dojo.


### Brett Hlavacek

**Role:** Instructor

**Bio:** Local hero and champion Muay Thai fighter currently fighting for Lion Fight Promotions. A veteran of the sport and one of the great ambassadors of Muay Thai culture, Brett is always working hard to teach and train the next generation of fighters. His love for the sport is front and center in everything he does and he regularly coordinates training camps in Thailand to help spread Thai boxing culture.


### Isa Friedlander - Black

**Role:** Instructor

**Bio:** Born and raised in San Jose, Costa Rica, Isa began practicing judo at age 14 and earned a spot on the Costa Rican junior national team. She received her black belt from Kenia Rodriguez, a Cuban Olympian and Pan-American champion. After graduating from Sarah Lawrence College with a degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, she earned three silver medals at Collegiate National Judo Championships, became a US National Champion, won a World Cup Bronze medal and a US Open Gold medal.


### Kim Hlavacek

**Role:** Instructor

**Bio:** Over 14 years of Muay Thai experience, Kim grew up in the Ridgewood/Glendale area and has always been a part of the Muay Thai community by immersing herself in the culture and consistently training in Thailand to bring the best knowledge possible to her students.
