**Description:** Legend Jiu Jitsu Academy is an Atos-affiliated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school serving the Fircrest, University Place, and Tacoma area. The academy is proud to be part of the global Atos community, one of the greatest jiu jitsu teams in the world with 15 World Championships and over 300 affiliates worldwide.

At Legend Jiu Jitsu Academy, everyone is welcome regardless of age or experience level. Jiu jitsu is a versatile and practical martial art that adapts to all skill levels. The academy provides high-level instruction in a positive environment that challenges all students while maintaining a focus on community, family, and developing meaningful relationships.

The academy recently moved to a new, larger facility featuring an expanded training space, bigger lounge area, bathrooms, and a dedicated weightlifting room. Training programs include traditional gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, no-gi grappling, judo for jiu jitsu, and wrestling for jiu jitsu. The gym offers programs for all ages including Little Legends (ages 3-4), Kids (ages 5-10), Teens (ages 11-17), and Adults (18+). Classes range from fundamentals to advanced levels, with specialized sessions for competition training and open mat sessions.

### Noa Moke - Black

**Role:** Head Instructor

**Bio:** Professor Noa Moke was born and raised in Kauai, Hawaii. He started jiu jitsu in 2000 at age 13 under Bruno Ewald (black belt under Royler Gracie) at Longman Jiu Jitsu. He trained there for 10 years until brown belt. In 2012 he received his black belt with the blessing of 6th-degree black belt Nelson Montero from Gracie Barra Kauai - Team Powerhouse. Noa is now under the guidance of Andre Galvao and the Atos association. Jiu jitsu was a refuge for Noa growing up, teaching him discipline, motivation, and self-confidence. He has competed in over 100 matches across Hawaii, Brazil, Washington, Oregon, and California. In 2005 he lived in Brazil and trained under Daniel Moraes (6-time World Champion) at the original Gracie Humaita and Iate Clube Jardim Guanabara. He began instructing in 2006 and moved to Washington in 2020 to open Legend Jiu Jitsu Academy. 'Legend' is Noa's local nickname on Kauai, given by his professor and mentor Jared Espina.


### Ben Brandon

**Role:** Instructor

**Bio:** Ben grew up in Truckee, California skateboarding, snowboarding, and playing in the punk and hardcore music scene. He moved to Seattle after 2007 and toured all over North America as an underground hip hop artist from 2011-2019. In 2018 he became a born again Christian and began serious jiu jitsu training in 2020 under Professor Noa Moke. His love to help people develop skills led him to coaching.


### Chris Ganigan - Purple

**Role:** Instructor

**Bio:** Coach Chris brings the aloha spirit from Oahu, Hawaii, to the mainland. Relocated to reconnect with his kids through Jiu-Jitsu. Purple belt earned under Professor Josh Calvo, now also training under Professor Noa. 4 years of teaching experience, blends island roots with mainland hospitality. Believes Jiu-Jitsu is more than just a martial art—it's a journey of self-discovery and connection.


### Darrin Fiskum

**Role:** Instructor

**Bio:** Darrin grew up in Melba, Idaho where he began training in kenpo and jiu jitsu at age 16 in 1999. Fell in love with martial arts and trained up to 6 hours a day, six days a week in many different styles. In 2004, he earned his black belt in kenpo. After a career-related back injury and 14-year hiatus, he started strength training in CrossFit to recover. After two years of conditioning, he returned to jiu jitsu training under Professor Noa Moke.


### Kerry Harris - Purple

**Role:** Instructor

**Bio:** Coach Kerry is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner with six years of competitive experience. Purple belt under Professor Noa Moke. Served honorably for 30 years in the U.S. Army Public Health Command, rising through senior warrant officer levels. Led global programs within the Department of Defense in public health. 2008 U.S. Army Medical Department, Veterinary Corps Warrant Officer of the Year. Former Drill Sergeant with Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Expert Field Medical Badge. Lived 22 years overseas in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science.


### Mike Andrews

**Role:** Instructor

**Bio:** Michael was born and raised in the South Sound. He began wrestling in the 5th grade. Upon graduation he immediately became a wrestling coach. Over the past 20 years he has coached in the south sound area as a middle school and high school coach, recognized as League, Regional and State coach of the year. Co-Founder and Head Coach of BAB Wrestling Club. Lives in Tacoma with his wife Rishena and 4 kids. Currently a high school Athletic Director and commissioner for Boys and Girls Wrestling for their league.


### Trevor Elkington - Brown

**Role:** Instructor

**Bio:** Trevor started his martial arts journey in 2011 at forty years old, training several arts alongside Brazilian jiu-jitsu before focusing on BJJ and grappling. He was awarded through his purple belt by Brian Johnson and Bob Heinemann at Northwest Jiu-Jitsu Academy (Seattle) in the Machado Brothers lineage. After moving to the south Sound area, he was awarded his brown belt by Noa Moke, Legend Atos, in 2024. As an older practitioner, he is particularly interested in efficient techniques and safe training methods.


### Victor Opalia - Black

**Role:** Instructor

**Bio:** Vic's jiu jitsu journey started in 2008 in Honolulu after an invite from a friend. He continued to train under a Relson Gracie association until purple belt. In 2015, after receiving his Masters in Social Work, he moved to San Diego to train at Atos HQ. Vic participated in competitions winning Master Worlds at brown belt (2017), Pan Ams at purple and brown (2015, 2016, 2017, 2019), and No Gi Worlds at purple (2016). In 2019, he was awarded his black belt from Andre Galvao. He returned to the PNW in 2020.

**Description:** Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program for children ages 5-10. Teaches respect, discipline, and martial arts fundamentals. 5 classes per week on Monday/Wednesday/Friday 4:00-4:50 PM and Tuesday/Thursday 5:00-5:50 PM.
