## Bio

A child prodigy who cut his teeth under Aloisio Silva at Dojo, Alexandre Dantas exploded onto the scene by winning the 1999 World Jiu-Jitsu Championship as a brown belt and receiving his black belt on the podium. That win led to an early UFC call-up, where the nineteen-year-old dominated Yuki Kondo before gassing and losing by strikes—a lesson in pacing that defined his transition to Gracie Barra under Carlos Gracie Junior. His peak came in 2002, when he swept the Rio state title, Pan American, Brazil vs USA challenge, and the World Championship without conceding a single point or advantage, beating Demian Maia, Marcelo Garcia, Roberto Tozi, and Rodrigo Comprido along the way. After retiring from international competition in 2006 to finish his PhD, he coaches at Sociedade Hípica Brasileira and runs his own Copa Café Jiu-jitsu tournament in Miguel Pereira.
