## Bio

Chris Haueter, a California-born Marine Corps veteran, began his martial arts journey with shotokan karate and wrestling before transitioning to BJJ under Rigan Machado at the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy. He received his black belt in December 1996 alongside Renato Magno, David Meyers, Rick Williams, and Fernando Vasconcelos. Haueter is credited with coining the term “combat base” for a previously unnamed position in Portuguese, later lending the name to his academy. He also served as head referee for the Metamoris promotion and created the MAGIKIMONO line with Shoyoroll.
