## Bio

Fernando Augusto, better known as Tererê, emerged from the Morro do Cantagalo favela in Rio de Janeiro, training initially under Master Lelo before a break in his training ended with an invitation from Otavio Couto to join Academia Strike alongside Roberto Traven and Alexandre Paiva. An explosive top player who hated being on the bottom due to claustrophobia, he won every major tournament early, famously taking the 1998 World Championship purple belt absolute final against a much larger Rolles Gracie by disqualification, clinching the team title for Alliance. His first black belt world title came in 2000 by defeating Nino Schembri with a throw and guard defense, celebrated with an Elvis impersonation. After leaving Alliance in 2002 over a tournament dispute to form Master Team and later TT Team with Eduardo Telles, he won a second world title in 2003, submitting Marcelo Garcia with a triangle. A brief MMA bout against Gleison Tibau ended in a split decision loss. His later years were marked by a well-documented struggle with drug addiction and schizophrenia, though he returned to competition in 2012, winning a black belt tournament in Mexico.
