## Bio

A standout from the Costa Rican scene, Julian Espinosa began training at age nine after a family friend introduced him to the art, working first under Juan Barrantes and later Javier Valenciano. As a brown belt, he moved to Arturo Wesson’s Renzo Gracie academy in Costa Rica, where Wesson and Rolles Gracie promoted him to black belt on December 16, 2022. Espinosa’s game blends the technical foundations of his early instruction with the Renzo Gracie lineage’s pressure-oriented approach, though his competitive résumé remains largely regional as of his black belt promotion.
