## Bio

Luis Marques took an unusual path to black belt, starting jiu-jitsu at 21 after a failed soccer career and training under Todd, Bruno Barrette, and André Pinheiro (Motoca) of the Godoy Academy/G13. Despite spending six years in one of the most famous pressure-passing schools, Marques developed a dynamic, fluid game that was nearly the antithesis of G13’s style — he credits this to coaching grappling as a purple belt, which forced him to roll at a heavy pace with his own students instead of training with the competition team. He earned his black belt from Pinheiro in December 2011 and later joined Eduardo Santoro’s team.
