**Date of Birth:** December 21, 1988 (age 37)

## Bio

A product of the São Paulo interior, Marcelo Nunes emerged from the grassroots social project of Master Takeyoshi in Itú, a garage gym where shared kimonos were the norm and hard training was the only luxury. Recognized early as a talent outgrowing his environment, Takeyoshi funneled him to Robert Drysdale, under whom Nunes earned his black belt in 2011 and represented the Brasa lineage. His competitive peak in the gi includes notable NAGA titles, but Nunes also leveraged his American move to cross-train striking, compiling a 5-1 professional MMA record and an unbeaten Muay Thai run.
