## Bio

The wildest son of Robson Gracie and younger brother of Renzo and Ralph, Ryan Gracie was less celebrated for competitive jiu-jitsu prowess than for the street violence and nightlife chaos that made him the emblematic Pit Boy of 1990s Rio. Training out of Gracie Barra, he and Ralph opened an academy in São Paulo in 1995, developing competitors like Renato Migliaccio, Fabio Leopoldo, and Gabriel Vella, but Ryan’s notoriety came from feuds—most famously the years-long war with Wallid Ismail, fueled by closed-door no-holds-barred matches, a bitten-off ear, and an unresolved brawl at a 2000 fashion show after-party. He debuted in MMA straight into Pride FC in 2000, marketed as the family’s wildman and facing Kazushi Sakuraba, Ikuhisa Minowa, and Yoji Anjo before retiring with a 5-2 record in 2004. Struggling with drug dependence, Ryan Gracie died on December 15, 2007, inside a São Paulo jail cell after a psychiatrist’s prescribed cocktail proved fatal.
