## Bio

Shay Montague, a roosterweight black belt under Darragh O’Conaill, rose from Scotland’s remote north coast to become the #1 ranked brown belt in the world at his weight before promotion. Starting jiu-jitsu at 16 after UFC highlights led him to the Mendes Brothers and Jacare, he trained under Martin Donaldson and Kevin McAloon at Ross Houston’s academy in Inverness, then moved to Glasgow’s The Griphouse while regularly crossing to Ireland to train with O’Conaill’s ECJJA crew. His competitive peak hit in 2022–2023, when he dominated the roosterweight brown belt scene, earning his black belt on June 25, 2023.
