Batu BJJ (의왕주짓수) is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy located in Uiwang-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, founded in 2018 at Uiwang Station. The gym is an officially certified academy by both the Korean Jiu-Jitsu Association and the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF), allowing students to compete in all IBJJF-sanctioned events and qualify for Korean national team selection. The academy is also a member of the TNT Network.
The gym's training philosophy emphasizes building healthy bodies and minds through jiu-jitsu, with a strong focus on teamwork and creating a welcoming environment where everyone can train together enjoyably. Batu BJJ teaches the full spectrum of grappling techniques including takedowns, sweeps, escapes, and submissions, helping students develop both self-defense skills and physical fitness while building confidence and mental maturity.
Head instructor Lee Soon-sung (이순성) holds a black belt 1st degree and brings over 10 years of teaching experience to the academy. He previously served as a jiu-jitsu coach at The Gym Lab MMA gym and has extensive experience as a referee in multiple Korean MMA promotions including Double-G FC, AFC, GFC, and SBS Pure Fighter. His competition achievements include winning 1st place at the 2019 B1 Championship (-76kg, brown belt), 2nd place at the 2023 AJP (-76kg, black belt), and 3rd place at the 2024 IBJJF Asian Championship (black belt). The facility features separate changing rooms and showers for men and women, and is equipped with strength training equipment including squat racks, pull-up bars, dip bars, kettlebells, Bulgarian bags, and battle ropes, allowing students to supplement their jiu-jitsu training with physical conditioning.
