AOJ Costa Mesa

Art of Jiu Jitsu (AOJ) Costa Mesa opened its doors in 2012 and was founded by world champion brothers Rafael and Guilherme Mendes together with RVCA founder PM Tenore. Since its inception, AOJ Costa Mesa has set the standard for how a Jiu Jitsu academy should operate and feel. Recognized both locally and around the world, it's known not only for its success in the sport, but also for transforming lives and helping people reach their personal best.

AOJ Academy's mission is to maximize each student's potential through Jiu Jitsu as a mechanism for personal development. The academy method consists of three interconnected components: Martial Arts Philosophy, Technical Study, and Application & Competition. This comprehensive approach creates an environment where world champions come together, propelling students to break boundaries and pursue relentless improvement.

The academy is led by world-renowned instructors including Rafael Mendes (6x World Champion, 2x ADCC Champion, IBJJF and ADCC Hall of Fame inductee), Gui Mendes (4x World Champion, IBJJF Hall of Fame member and Head Professor), Tainan Dalpra (3x Black Belt World Champion), Jessa Khan (World Champion at multiple belts including black belt), Cole Abate (youngest ever ADCC Trials winner at 16), and Pablo Lavaselli (2x World Pro Champion). AOJ Academy members have unlimited access to both the Costa Mesa and Mission Viejo locations.
