B9 Barbosa Jiu-Jitsu is a world-renowned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy network founded by Sensei Marco Antônio Barbosa (Barbosinha), a 6th degree black belt. Born in Araçatuba, São Paulo in 1968, Barbosa began his martial arts journey in Judo at age 13, earning his black belt in 1986 under Sensei Uichiro Umakakeba. After training in Japan and representing Brazil in the Pan-American Games (Cuba) and World Championship (Spain) in 1991, he transitioned to Jiu-Jitsu in 1992, training with Roberto Godoy and Macaco at Companhia Paulista. The B9 network was established in 2011 and has grown to over 60 affiliated academies worldwide with more than 3,000 students.
The academy's teaching philosophy emphasizes martial arts as a life philosophy, combining modern teaching methodology with traditional values of respect and discipline. B9 is known for its rigorous training standards, with over 60 certified instructors aligned with the unified B9 teaching methodology. Barbosa is particularly renowned for his exceptional guard passing abilities and ground fighting techniques, knowledge he accumulated over 30+ years of training and competition. The academy offers programs for all ages and skill levels, from kids programs to advanced competitor training.
The B9 team is led by Sensei Marco Barbosa, supported by experienced black belt instructors including Professor Andrei Agostinho (black belt since 2000, previously Carlson Gracie team), Professor Gilvan Santana Moreira (specializing in multiple martial arts), and Professora Patrícia Lage (daughter of Mestre Roberto Lage, lifelong competitor). This location in Para de Minas is part of the extensive B9 network bringing world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction to Minas Gerais.
