Since 2014, Lake County Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (LCBJJ) has been the premier destination for martial arts training in the GLMV area (Green Oaks, Libertyville, Mundelein, and Vernon Hills). Founded and led by Master Carlos Archila, a Second Degree Black Belt under Leo Vieira, the gym is committed to providing top-tier Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai instruction for both kids and adults. Carlos brings a wealth of experience to his teaching, having begun his Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2005 and discovering his passion for instruction early on as a blue belt. As an Army Reserve veteran and holder of a BA in Sociology from Northern Illinois University, he understands the pivotal role a positive environment plays in shaping character. Lake County BJJ offers specialized programs tailored to different age groups and skill levels. For children, the gym provides age-appropriate classes for kids 5-7 and 8-12, starting with a Basic program that builds strong foundations in BJJ and essential character values before progressing to a Leadership program where students develop higher-level skills, leadership qualities, and competition experience. For adults, the gym offers both Gi and No-Gi classes ranging from beginner-friendly fundamentals to advanced sessions for experienced practitioners. Morning and evening classes are available six days a week to accommodate all schedules, ensuring steady progress whether students are looking to get in shape, learn self-defense, or compete. The instructional team includes Patty Archila, a Black Belt under Carlos Archila who serves as Operations Manager and Assistant Instructor with a strong focus on Women's Jiu-Jitsu, and Nefeli Papadakis, an accomplished 2021 Tokyo Olympics Judo competitor for Team USA and three-time Senior National Champion who brings elite-level experience to coaching the next generation.
