Daruma Dojo, with locations in Sunnyvale and Milpitas, is the Bay Area's leading family-oriented Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy, known for both technical excellence and a strong culture of belonging, personal growth, and community. Their mission is to create a space where families grow stronger together, and students of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels feel supported, challenged, and inspired. Founded by Professor Alberto Juarez, a 3rd-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Ricardo Barros and a black belt in Judo from SJSU legend David Williams, Daruma Dojo brings over 20 years of teaching experience to the Bay Area martial arts community. Professor Juarez holds a B.S. in Kinesiology from San Jose State University, bringing an academic and technical approach to teaching that encourages students to dive deep into techniques and find their own jiu-jitsu. He currently teaches BJJ at San Jose State University and was previously the head BJJ instructor at Stanford's BJJ club. Daruma Dojo offers comprehensive programs for all ages and skill levels, including adult fundamentals, advanced training, competition preparation, kids programs (ages 4-15), teen classes, no-gi grappling, and traditional Judo. Their unique "Blueprint to Blue Belt" fundamentals curriculum provides a structured 32-class progression for beginners in both gi and no-gi formats. The academy welcomes all genders and provides support for students with special needs, focusing on building not just physical skills but also confidence, discipline, and community connection.
