Castroviejo Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a welcoming academy in Redwood City, California, offering authentic Gi and No-Gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes for both children and adults. Founded in October 2024 by Leandro Castroviejo, the academy was established after six years as part of the Charles Gracie network of academies, representing a new independent chapter while maintaining strong connections to the Gracie legacy. The academy's mission is to promote the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu through exceptional training programs that cater to all skill levels, from complete beginners to advanced practitioners. The training philosophy focuses on building confidence, discipline, and physical fitness while fostering a strong sense of community among members. Classes emphasize technical proficiency, self-defense skills, and competition preparation in a safe and supportive environment. Lead instructor and academy owner Leandro Castroviejo brings over 20 years of experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to the academy. Born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, Leandro earned his black belt in 2016 and has since become an accomplished competitor with more than 50 medals from the highest levels of competition. His achievements include multiple National Championships, two American Cup Championships, four U.S. Open Championships, and medals at the IBJJF World Championships (2014, 2015, 2016) and Pan American Championship (2015). As an IBJJF Certified 3rd Degree Black Belt, Leandro has been teaching for over twelve years and is particularly passionate about empowering students through self-defense training, especially women and teenage girls.
