Professor Washington Luis is an accomplished competitor with an impressive track record. He is a two-time Master World Champion (IBJJF 2019 gi and no-gi), two-time Abu Dhabi Pro Champion (UAEJJF Grand Slam LA 2019), and No-Gi Pan Champion (IBJJF 2015). His additional achievements include podium finishes at the CBJJ Brazilian Nationals (2012) and IBJJF World Championship No-Gi (2016). Professor Luis's journey began at age 10 in Rio's Complexo do Lins social project, where he trained under César "Casquinha" Guimarães at Top Brother before joining GF Team under Júlio César Pereira. He earned his black belt in 2011 and moved to the United States in 2014, initially coaching in Boston alongside Robson Mau-Mau before settling in Houston. The academy's training philosophy emphasizes discipline, respect, and the transformative power of Jiu-Jitsu. Professor Luis credits the martial art with changing his life during a difficult childhood in Rio's favelas, and he's dedicated to helping others experience similar positive transformations. Academia Washington Luis offers programs for Little Ninjas (ages 4-7), Juniors (ages 8-14), and adults, with both gi and no-gi training available. Académie Connexion is a martial arts and fitness gym located on the South Shore of Montreal in Saint-Amable, Quebec.
