Episode 160 - Rules For Jiu-Jitsu 1

On this episode, Chewy and Eugene discuss the "rules for Jiu-Jitsu." The rules discussed were: Jiu-Jitsu is a marathon, doing something new to shake things up, having a clear vision to what you're chasing, pacing yourself, and accepting failure as the currency for progress. This week, we're joined by newly minted black belt Margot Ciccarelli! Margot leads us on one of our most interesting discussions ever: her philosophy of movement vocabulary. Margot argues that we speak with our bodies, and that movement is a form of communication. In this episode we talk about the vocabulary we use in Jiu-Jitsu: how we label, speak, and listen with movements we make. **Mental models discussed in this episode:** - Dictate the Pace [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/dictate-the-pace/](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/dictate-the-pace/)- Feedback Loop [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/feedback-loop/](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/feedback-loop/)- Shuhari [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/shuhari/](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/shuhari/)- Growth From Discomfort [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/growth-from-discomfort/](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/growth-from-discomfort/)- Growth Mindset [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/growth-mindset/](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/growth-mindset/)- Predictable Responses [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/predictable-responses/](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/predictable-responses/)- Windows of Opportunity [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/windows-of-opportunity/](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/windows-of-opportunity/)- Controlled Breathing [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/controlled-breathing/](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/controlled-breathing/)- Staying Loose [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/staying-loose/](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/staying-loose/)- Mask Your Intentions [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/mask-your-intentions/](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/mask-your-intentions/) **Don't forget to check out BJJ Mental Models Premium!** If you love the podcast, you’ll definitely love our premium membership offerings. Episode 159 - The Key Difference Between A Veteran and A Newbie

On this episode, Chewy discusses something that he learned from the books *With The Old Breed* by Eugene Sledge and *The Things Our Fathers Saw* by Matthew Rozell. The part that was interesting was the key difference between veterans and new soldiers and how the acceptance of the idea of death from the veteran soldiers allowed them to be more aggressive. And as it relates to BJJ, experienced grapplers who have accepted the possibility of losing are able to be more aggressive on the mats. We also answer one question that we received on Instagram: If we could go back and change one thing about our training habits to prevent injuries, what would it be?
