Electric Jiu Jitsu is a Checkmat affiliate martial arts school specializing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense. Since opening in 2012 in Huntington Beach, California, the academy has introduced hundreds of students to the art of BJJ through a simplified, structured, and welcoming approach that makes training accessible for all ages and skill levels. The school teaches real, practical self-defense through fundamental BJJ concepts, focusing on movement, timing, technique repetition, and fast decision-making skills. Programs are available in both gi and no-gi styles, offering the full spectrum of grappling in a relaxed yet disciplined environment. Electric Jiu Jitsu offers daily classes for kids (ages 4-6, 7-11, and teens), adults, and women-specific programs. Head instructor Professor João Francisco de Moraes Assis is an 8X World Champion and ADCC Champion with over 25 years of teaching experience. His lineage traces through Carlos Gracie, Hélio Gracie, Rolls Gracie, Romero Cavalcante, and Leonardo Vieira. Under his guidance, Electric Jiu Jitsu has grown from a handful of students to hundreds of successful practitioners, maintaining high standards with excellent student-to-instructor ratios and a team built on strong values and integrity.
