Cohesion Training Academy is a Chartered academy of the United States Judo Association and an active member of the IBJJF. Founded on the principle "We Rise By Lifting Others," this family-oriented martial arts academy in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, offers a welcoming environment where students from all walks of life can train side by side in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, and Striking/MMA, regardless of experience level.
The academy is owned and operated by Professor Steve Matias, a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor John Ouano (5th Degree) and a 4th Degree Black Belt in Judo. Professor Steve is a Combat veteran who served in the Marine Corps as an Infantryman and Marine Combat Instructor of Water Survival, and currently serves as Fire Chief of Frontier Shores Fire Department in Osage County. With over 25 years of martial arts experience, he also holds the position of Vice President of the United States Judo Association and was inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame in July 2025.
Cohesion Training Academy's philosophy emphasizes quality instruction while providing a safe, non-competitive training environment. The academy teaches the same effective techniques the Gracie family and their students have used to dominate Mixed Martial Arts competitions for years. All instructors undergo in-house coaching training, maintain current background checks through the National Center for Safety Initiatives, and complete Safe Sport, CDC concussion awareness, and sexual abuse recognition training. Whether your interest lies in self-defense, competition, fitness, weight loss, or simply being part of a great team, Cohesion provides a positive, motivating environment to help adults and children achieve their martial arts goals at their own pace.
