AJJ Apex Jiu-Jitsu

APEX Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Sterling, Virginia, is a premier martial arts training facility offering elite instruction in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, No-Gi grappling, wrestling, kickboxing, boxing, and MMA. Coach John Brattelli holds the #1 global ranking in No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu through the IBJJF with over 10 International Open titles, and brings 26 years of Boxing and Kickboxing experience including a 2015 world championship. Coach Dan Scanlan is an NCAA National Champion wrestler (2012) with 17 years of coaching experience, having trained over 20 Virginia State Champions and multiple national titleholders. APEX offers a diverse program structure including fundamentals and advanced Jiu-Jitsu classes, competition training, marathon rolling sessions, youth and adult kickboxing, and an introductory MMA program. Classes run 6 days per week with morning, afternoon, and evening sessions to accommodate various schedules. The academy emphasizes a supportive, safe training environment where students develop practical self-defense skills, improve fitness, and build confidence. New students can start with a free trial class, and kickboxing students receive complimentary boxing gloves and shin pads upon enrollment.

Daruma Dojo, with locations in Sunnyvale and Milpitas, is the Bay Area's leading family-oriented Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy, known for both technical excellence and a strong culture of belonging, personal growth, and community. Their mission is to create a space where families grow stronger together, and students of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels feel supported, challenged, and inspired. Founded by Professor Alberto Juarez, a 3rd-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Ricardo Barros and a black belt in Judo from SJSU legend David Williams, Daruma Dojo brings over 20 years of teaching experience to the Bay Area martial arts community. Professor Juarez holds a B.S. in Kinesiology from San Jose State University, bringing an academic and technical approach to teaching that encourages students to dive deep into techniques and find their own jiu-jitsu. He currently teaches BJJ at San Jose State University and was previously the head BJJ instructor at Stanford's BJJ club. Under the guidance of Professor Corpuz, a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Roberto Traven (Coral Belt), students receive world-class instruction in a welcoming, family-oriented environment. The training philosophy at BC Kickboxing & BJJ emphasizes helping students "achieve goals well beyond their potential" through dedicated coaching and structured programming. His competitive achievements include 2009 AMMO Featherweight Champion, 2010 and 2012 IBJJF Pan Am Featherweight No-Gi Champion, 2012 World Champion at Grapplers Quest, 2013 NAGA Champion, and multiple tournament championships. He also holds a 3rd degree black belt in Taekwondo and a brown belt in Shotokan Karate, making him a well-rounded martial artist with deep expertise across multiple disciplines.
