Bellingham BJJ

At Bellingham BJJ, we love jiu-jitsu — and we want you to love jiu-jitsu. Jiu-jitsu trains us to find the best, most efficient and effective ways to do things. Everybody has different goals in life, and we should all want to help our training partners reach their goals, using this powerful martial art as a tool. Your goals might be to defend yourself better, to compete in high-level events, or just to get in better shape while having fun and learning. All of these are great goals, and jiu-jitsu can help you reach every one of them. Bellingham BJJ holds regular gi and no-gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes at 205 W. Holly St. in downtown Bellingham. We also offer regular 4-week introductory sessions at a low-cost. White belts must join the Intro to BJJ sessions before attending regular classes. Category Five Jiu-Jitsu

Category Five Jiu-Jitsu is a welcoming Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in Hurricane, West Virginia that emphasizes community and camaraderie. Originally established by Shannon Newhouse in 2014, the gym was fully inherited by Wes and Kristi Thompson during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The academy maintains a tidy and clean training environment that allows students of all backgrounds to focus on technique and physical improvement. Category Five's lineage comes from Jiu-Jitsu legends and multiple time World Champions Saulo and Xande Ribeiro. Saulo received his black belt from Royler Gracie in 1995 and passed on his knowledge to Chris Blanke, his first American Black Belt. The gym continues to grow and improve through the guidance of Chris, who is the owner of the Toledo Jiu-Jitsu Center / Badger Style Team, senior member of the Six Blades Jiu-Jitsu Team, IBJJF 4th degree Black Belt, multiple time champion, and a certified defensive tactics instructor for the state of Ohio. The instructors at Category Five represent various martial arts backgrounds and specialties including Jiu-Jitsu, mixed martial arts, and defensive tactics. Head instructor Wes Thompson is a black belt under Scott Layton with over 20 years of combat sport experience. Shannon Newhouse received his Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under Scott Layton in 2018 and has over 15 years of BJJ experience. Other instructors include Samuel Hedrick (black belt, 2024), Jacob Mills (black belt, 2025), Ted Malone (black belt under Saulo and Xande Ribeiro, certified Law Enforcement Defensive Tactics Instructor), and Matthew Haid (black belt, 2024, 15+ years experience). The academy values community, passion, perseverance, fun, and respect, building resilient athletes both on and off the mats.

Electric North Jiu Jitsu is a veteran-owned martial arts academy specializing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, founded in 2015 by Greg Anderson in Lake Stevens, Washington. The academy is Checkmat affiliated under renowned instructors Leo Vieira and Joao Assis, maintaining the highest standards of BJJ instruction and competition excellence. ENJJ offers training programs ranging from complete novice practitioners to elite competitors, including dedicated programs for adults and children as young as 6 years old. The academy's curriculum offers comprehensive instruction followed by high-intensity application that closely simulates real-world scenarios. Alliance Washington

Alliance BJJ Washington is a veteran-owned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy with two locations in Lacey and Lakewood, Washington. Founded by Army veteran and 10-time All-American Greco Roman Wrestler James Johnson Jr., the gym opened its first location in Lakewood in May 2015, followed by the Lacey location in June 2020. As a member of Team Alliance, one of the most prestigious Jiu-Jitsu teams in the world with over 300 affiliate academies across 29 countries and 13 World Championship titles, Alliance BJJ Washington provides world-class instruction while maintaining a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. James Johnson Jr. began his martial arts journey as a child, earning his black belt in Tang Soo Do before wrestling in high school and serving in the US Army as a Greco Roman wrestler. Renzo Gracie Lynden (RGA PNW), formerly known as Classic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, is a Renzo Gracie affiliate academy located in Lynden, Washington. The school underwent several changes before finding its home as part of the Renzo Gracie network, discovering a community and mission that matched their core values of respect, discipline, and mutual support. The academy is led by Professor Mauro and Professor Sabrina, both experienced black belt instructors dedicated to empowering students through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The program focuses on building confidence, teaching respect and discipline, promoting health and fitness, and creating a welcoming community where everyone supports each other. The academy offers both gi and no-gi training for adults, as well as comprehensive youth programs including Cubs (younger children) and Lions (older children) classes.
