# The Bluenose Grappling Derby

**Description:** The Bluenose Grappling Derby is genorously sponsored by Paq'tnkek Mi'kmaw Nation and Rising Youth. It will host a variety of competitions that will be free for all who wish to participate and view. This event will be focused on inclusion and fostering a stronger bond between community and visitors. There will be refreshments and snacks for participants, coaches, and spectators.

Morning Event: Weigh-ins at 9:30am and rules meeting beginning at 10:00am. Matches to follow.

(No Submissions Under Age 11--points only)

For adult beginners, adult intermediate competitors, as well as children and youth, the age, experience, and weight of the competitor will be considered when creating the brackets to ensure fair and reasonable competition. The children, youth, adult beginners, and adult intermediate competitors will adhere to a points based, IBJJF No Gi like, rule set that will be discussed on competition day with the competitors. Medals will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers of each division. Brackets are subject to changed based on number of participants.

Evening Event: Rules meeting at 6:30pm and matches beginning at approximately 7:10pm.

The Open Weight absolute bracket will follow the first wave of competition. The bracket will be open to any expert, advanced, or intermediate grappler--with coach's permission, with great prizes of a $400 value PayPal giftcard for 1st, a $200 value PayPal giftcard for 2nd, and a $100 PayPal giftcard for 3rd place. The absolute division will adhere to an ADCC like rule set and discussion of the rules with competitors will take place before the bracket begins. For safety of the competitors, this bracket will not be open to beginners. Coaches are encouraged to compete.

There are a series of scheduled superfights with agreed upon rules between highly skilled grapplers and an exhibition match with competitors to be named. Superfight matches will divide the succession of the absolute bracket for ample rest periods between the absolute bracket matches.
