There is a significant difference between self-defense and sport. When we think of sporting versions of martial arts, we must immediately imagine all the targets that are excluded, since there are prohibitions through rules. In a sporting competition, we cannot hit the back, testicles, eyes, or throat. Now, if we are defending ourselves on the street against aggressors who are often larger and stronger (in sporting competitions, competitors are usually separated by weight), we cannot exchange punches and kicks with them. The most vulnerable targets should be the first to be exploited, since the throat, eyes, testicles, and back are equally vulnerable in any human being, regardless of their size. Furthermore, we cannot forget that urban aggressions can often put our own lives at risk. Working with traditional martial arts focused on self-defense should never lose sight of all the targets at stake, which is technically fundamental, but above all, fosters a great sense of responsibility in the practitioner. Martial arts can be dangerous and therefore must be used wisely and taught by people with a high sense of social responsibility. Therefore, it is precisely through the traditional method that it becomes necessary to learn a philosophy compatible with a lifestyle that involves caring for the health of the body and mind. This is the focus of all classes taught at the martial arts school in Vila Mariana. The Martial Arts Clan was conceived by Marcelo Bonanno (Kung Fu instructor) in 2005. His idea was to create an environment where different martial arts styles could coexist peacefully and collaboratively. It was inaugurated in 2007, and the Clan's current headquarters are in Vila Mariana. The martial arts school in Vila Mariana is a center for activities related to Eastern culture, offering classes in various traditional martial arts, with its main activity being the Seven Star Praying Mantis Kung Fu classes, taught by the school's founder.
