Batalje

Batalje is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy located in Tromsø, Norway's northernmost BJJ gym. The academy is located in "Hvelvet" at Grønnegata 86-88, Tromsø's newest combat sports facility. Batalje focuses primarily on BJJ training, both gi and no-gi, while also offering MMA and Judo classes. The academy emphasizes a training philosophy centered on control and submission techniques without strikes, teaching students to master body control and secure submissions through joint locks and chokes.

Batalje offers a comprehensive program structure for all ages and skill levels. The academy runs programs including BJJ for beginners, intermediate/advanced practitioners, no-gi grappling, kids BJJ for ages 8-13, women's BJJ classes, open mat sessions, MMA training, and sparring sessions. Led by Tobias Furu Markussen (board chairman), the academy provides a welcoming environment where new students can train for free during their first week.

The gym maintains an active competition presence with students regularly competing in national and international tournaments including the IBJJF circuit. Batalje is affiliated with the IBJJF federation and focuses on building courage, mastery, and community among its members. The academy welcomes practitioners of all levels, with dedicated beginner sessions recommended for those with little or no martial arts experience.
