Art Of Entanglement logo

Art Of Entanglement

2440 N Fremont St Suite 207, Monterey, CA 93940, Monterey, KY 93940

Art of Entanglement is a family-run, family-oriented Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in Monterey, California. Founded in 2024 by Christopher Rafael Moreno, a 2024 National Gold medalist who came to America from Venezuela in 2014, the gym has quickly established itself as a top-tier training facility in the area. Chris discovered Jiu-Jitsu after realizing college wasn't for him, and less than a year into training, he began teaching kids BJJ, fully embracing the art. After years of teaching and competing, Chris opened Art of Entanglement to fill a need for quality Jiu-Jitsu instruction in the Monterey area. The academy embodies its name - teaching the true art of entanglement rather than just moves. Art of Entanglement tracks each student's evolution, provides 1-on-1 training, breaks down movements, and continuously keeps notes to track progress. The technical expertise is complemented by a strong passion for Jiu-Jitsu and a competitive energy that makes everyone better. The instructors provide constructive criticism while keeping students motivated, always pushing them near their limits while having their backs. The training philosophy is clear: your Jiu-Jitsu journey is about your progress, not theirs. The facility features a top-tier conditioning room with dumbbells, weights, a sauna, and a cold plunge for recovery. Parents can relax in a comfortable lobby area during kids' classes. The academy welcomes students from Monterey, Pacific Grove, Del Rey Oaks, Sand City, and Seaside, offering over 30 classes per week for both kids (ages 4-14) and teens/adults (15+). The community has created a family bond that extends beyond the mats, with students and instructors sticking together both in and out of the academy. Art of Entanglement also offers a FREE Saturday class for Law Enforcement and First Responders as a thank you for their service to the community.

AFS Academy of Martial Arts at 427 Big Hill Ave, Richmond, KY 40475

10th Planet Richmond is headed up by head instructor Scott Elliott. Scott has spent nearly his entire life in martial arts starting with wrestling as a kid and eventually adding the study of various martial arts. He joined the army in 1987 as a Cav Scout/Recon and eventually became a Drill Sgt. and trained troops for Desert Storm. After getting out of the military he opened his MMA gym in 1994 after seeing the first UFC and continued studying martial arts with legendary masters like Dan Inosanto, Ajarn Chai Sirisute, Jean Jaques Machado, Erik Paulson and Salem Assli. Over the following years, he earned instructor certifications in Muay Thai, Jun Fan/JKD, Kali, Silat, Savate and Combat Submission Wrestling and still trains with many of his instructors to this day always seeking to increase his knowledge and stay on the cutting edge. After Scott heard of Royler Gracie being tapped out by Eddie in 2003, Scott became intrigued by Eddie’s techniques and philosophies of Jiu Jitsu. He scrambled for anything he could find to learn more about his technique and started collecting any articles, clips and eventually books and videos to start incorporating his special brand of Jiu Jitsu into his teaching curriculum. After adding more and more of the 10th Planet system to his teaching, he finally decided to go all the way and become an official affiliate and help the system grow. Now, Scott runs his gym as well as teaching college accredited courses in Muay Thai, MMA and BJJ at Eastern Kentucky University. He will soon be teaching the first college accredited course in 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu.

Art Of Submission

10405 E McDowell Mountain Ranch Rd, Suite 150, Scottsdale, AZ 85255, Scottsdale, KY 85255

Art of Submission is a faith-centered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in Scottsdale, Arizona, founded by Paris Stanford. The gym exists as more than just a training space—it's a reflection of Paris's personal journey and commitment to serve others through martial arts. Paris started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2010, initially pursuing a career as a professional fighter. After a transformative spiritual experience, he founded Art of Submission to help students grow both on and off the mats. The academy's philosophy centers on the concept of submission—both in the physical sense practiced in Jiu-Jitsu and the spiritual sense of surrendering to faith. At AOS, students learn that true strength comes through humility, wisdom, and growth rather than from dominance. The training environment emphasizes discipline, faith, and community, where everyone is challenged, supported, and sharpened together. As the gym's guiding scripture states: "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17). Art of Submission offers comprehensive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training for all ages and experience levels. The adult program includes beginner gi classes for newcomers, advanced gi classes for experienced practitioners, and no-gi classes focused on fast-paced grappling without the traditional uniform. Kids programs are available for children ages 4 and up, teaching discipline and confidence through martial arts. The academy maintains high standards with spacious training areas, top-quality mats and equipment, and a welcoming community atmosphere built on faith-centered values. Paris Stanford serves as the head instructor, bringing over 14 years of experience to every class and competition training session.
