Conde Koma BJJ is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in Los Alamitos, California, dedicated to providing a welcoming environment where students of all ages can learn and practice the gentle art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Named after Mitsuyo Maeda (known as Conde Koma), one of the founders of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the academy honors the traditional values and techniques that have made BJJ a transformative martial art.
Led by Head Professor Chris Gutierrez (Black Belt since 2012), Conde Koma BJJ offers comprehensive instruction for students ranging from ages 4 to adult. The academy's philosophy centers on building not just technical proficiency, but also physical fitness, mental well-being, self-confidence, respect, and discipline. The welcoming family atmosphere makes it an ideal place for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
The teaching staff includes Professor Omi Iwasaki (Black Belt 2019), Professor Adam Ferris (Black Belt 2020), Professor Nelson Kanno (Black Belt 2024), Coach Gerald Quiambao (Brown Belt), Head Kids Coach Diego Leyva (Purple Belt), and Competition Kids Coaches Andrew Ramos (Brown Belt) and Harley Ramos (Blue Belt). This experienced team provides specialized instruction across all programs, ensuring personalized attention for students at every level.
