Head & Arm Triangle Escapes | Side Control, Mount & Rear Body Lock Defense

From 10th Planet Colorado Springs

September 7, 2026

This lesson focuses on escaping the head-and-arm triangle from two of the most dangerous finishing positions: side control and mount.

Coach starts from standing with duck unders to the rear body lock, then covers how to defend the lift once an opponent gets behind you.

From there, the class moves into the main technique: head-and-arm triangle defense and escapes.

Covered in this video:

• Duck under to rear body lock
• Rear body lock control
• Preventing the lift from rear body lock
• Head-and-arm triangle from side control
• Escaping the head-and-arm triangle from side control
• Head-and-arm triangle from mount
• Escaping the head-and-arm triangle from mount
• Defensive positioning and timing

The goal is to recognize the choke early, create the space you need, and avoid letting the attacker settle into a strong finishing position.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
