Striking Feints & Slide-Back Counters | Create Reactions, Then Fire Back

From 10th Planet Colorado Springs

November 7, 2026

Coach breaks down how to use feints to create reactions and open up your striking.

The lesson starts with simple feints built around the three basic punches, then adds front kicks and roundhouse kicks to give your opponent more looks and make your offense harder to read.

From there, Coach shows how feints can help set up counters—especially against the jab.

A major part of the lesson is distance management: sliding back just enough to make the jab miss, then immediately stepping back into range with a counter of your own.

Covered in this video:

• Feinting with the basic punches

• Using punch feints to create reactions

• Front kick feints

• Roundhouse kick feints

• Mixing punches and kicks behind the same looks

• Countering the jab

• Sliding back out of striking range

• Making the opponent miss without over-retreating

• Re-entering after the slide back

• Returning with another counter

• Managing distance during exchanges

The goal is to make your opponent react first, create the opening, and then use your movement to stay safe while still being ready to fire back.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
