Tripod pass from half guard

Tripod pass from half guard

From American Top Team Orlando

May 22, 2018

In the days of old, half guard was more of a position of last resort. It was a position to get when your guard was about to pass your gaurd (and once you got there you worked to get back to full gaurd.

The times have changed though

Fast forward twenty years and half gaurd today is seen primarily as an offensive position with lots of sweeping positions and attacks. Half guard, deep half guard, lock down, etc.....there may be more sweeps from half gaurd options that any other other guard in jiu jitu.

In this video, Instructor Tommy Gilligan teaches on of the safest and high percentage half gaurd passes in BJJ. This lesson is taught in our fundamentals program

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
