Health & Wellness Webinar | Capital MMA & Elite Fitness | Wellness Connection

From Capital MMA & Elite Fitness

February 19, 2021

Capital MMA & Elite Fitness partnered with the Wellness Connection for a mental health webinar on Thursday, February 18th, 2021.

Mental health is a state of well-being that allows people cope with stress, work productively, and effectively make contributions to their communities. Mental health problems are common and can affect thinking, mood and behavior. At every stage in life it is important to assess your overall well-being, and if you are experiencing mental health problems, know that you can get better. It’s also important to understand that there are times when help and guidance play an essential role in recovery.

This webinar was sponsored by Capital Cares, and our presenter for the evening was Susan McCormick, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and owner of The Wellness Connection.

One year ago Jonathan “Jon Boy” Vinyard passed. Jon was a charismatic and genuine human being who was eager to connect with the people around him. He had a warm heart and frequently expressed his love for others.

In January of 2014 Saeed Huda passed. Saeed was a gentle, kind and compassionate person who everyone thought highly of.

We miss both of these people dearly.

If you or someone you know is experiencing one or more of these feelings or behaviors, it could be the sign of a mental health concern:

Too much or too little sleep
- Self isolation
- Apathy
- Having little or no energy
- Excessive alcohol or drug use
- Feeling confused, worried, helpless, or hopeless
- Having problems with established relationships
- Inability to perform daily tasks
- Thinking of harming yourself or others

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
