Cautionary Tale of Backyard MMA & Amateur Fights

Cautionary Tale of Backyard MMA & Amateur Fights

From Chewjitsu

September 30, 2026

Today's video is a little different. It's not about the normal BJJ training advice or Q&As that I do.

This one is about a student who recently came into the gym and was signed up for a backyard fighting MMA organization.

He has a little training and wrestling and has plenty of potential but I told him to not do it and focus on training.

I share some stories of people who have been hurt and beaten up pretty bad in MMA fights because they wanted to not train and just fight.

This may not be for everyone, but if I can reach at least 1 young person who wants to fight, then it's worth it.

Thanks for watching it.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
