The Most Annoying Excuse in BJJ

The Most Annoying Excuse in BJJ

From Chewjitsu

October 21, 2026

I got a question from a young Blue Belt, who is getting annoying comments from the people he trains with.

It's one of the things people say in Jiu-Jitsu that just annoys me: "stop using your strength" "use more technique" etc, etc.

It annoys me because it tends to be a passive aggressive comment and cope from a fellow grappler when they're beaten in rounds.

The worst part, if you lose, they don't bring this up.

This tends to come from the mythology of technique.

I'll talk more about this in the video and discuss my thoughts on the situation.

Thanks for watching.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
