Struggling to get a single leg takedown because your opponent keeps their leg back after you've established a collar tie and opposite wrist control? Here's a simple BJJ technique to help you adapt!

Watch as a Jiu Jitsu black belt demonstrates how to use a collar tie and opposite wrist control to set up a single leg takedown. When your opponent won't step forward with the leg you want, use a throw-by, change levels, and attack the available leg.

Keep your head up, move around your opponent, and work toward back control. The key is recognizing your opponent's positioning and adjusting your takedown instead of forcing a technique that isn't there.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
