Adult No-Gi Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach | Establish Your Guard, Then Explode Up

From Coastal Jiu Jitsu

October 28, 2026

Knocking your partner over isn't the finish. It's when the fight starts. In this Adult No-Gi class at Coastal Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach, we keep working guard and leg entanglements, with a focus on what you do right after the sweep.

If you want a workout that also keeps your mind busy, this class is a good example.

Inside this class

The coach explains starting no-gi at a base level after the gi class, and treating leg entanglements as a backup option, not your first choice. We work keeping an attack going after passing, pushing the partner out, and single leg X into X-guard. Rounds focus on establishing your guard, knocking your partner over, and exploding to the top, with hands or hips hitting the mat first.

Key technical concepts

Start simple. No-gi work begins at a base level before adding complexity.

The sweep is the start. After knocking your partner over, come up and keep the attack going.

Have a backup plan. Leg positions are an option when your first plan doesn't work.

Why this work matters

Rounds built around one clear goal help adults practice making quick decisions under pressure. Students learn to make a plan, notice what isn't working, and try another option, and the more experienced partner sets the pace so people at every level can train hard and keep coming back.

This video is also an honest look at a normal day of training here. Nobody is performing for the camera: you see the questions, the corrections, the missed attempts, and the small wins that add up over time. If you've wondered what a class actually feels like before you walk in, this is it. Come try one, ask questions, and see for yourself.

New to Jiu Jitsu?

You don't need any wrestling or Jiu Jitsu background to start. Beginners learn the basics first, drill at a controlled pace, and build up to live training with coaching along the way. Questions are always welcome, and partners look after each other so everyone can keep training.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
