Adult No-Gi Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach | Leg Entanglements to the Back

From Coastal Jiu Jitsu

October 28, 2026

Leg entanglements aren't just for footlocks. They can also take you to the back. In this Adult No-Gi class at Coastal Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach, the coach answers questions from the gi session about going from the legs to the back without grips.

If you want something that challenges your mind as much as your body, this kind of question-and-answer class is a good place to start.

Inside this class

Class opens with questions: an ankle pick that doesn't work, wrist grips, and where to go when your partner moves well. The coach explains always thinking about the back, staying close enough to grab in one fluid motion, and using leverage through the hand, wrist, forearm and elbow (and the laces, ankle, shin and knee on the legs).

From X-guard, we work not pushing the partner too far away, putting the knee inside, keeping connection through the toes, and the four points of control when a grip breaks. You don't have to force the back. Control the partner and steer them over. Rounds close the class, with coaching on wrist and elbow control and on overhook versus underhook.

Key technical concepts

Always think about the back. Leg positions can be a path to the back, not only to foot locks.

Stay close. Without the gi grips, staying connected to your partner matters even more.

Control, don't force. Steer your partner where you want them instead of muscling the position.

Why this work matters

A question-and-answer class lets students bring their own problems to the mat, which keeps training interesting and practical. Students learn to make a plan, notice what isn't working, and try another option, and the more experienced partner sets the pace so people at every level can train hard and keep coming back.

New to Jiu Jitsu?

You don't need any wrestling or Jiu Jitsu background to start. Beginners learn the basics first, drill at a controlled pace, and build up to live training with coaching along the way. Questions are always welcome, and partners look after each other so everyone can keep training.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
